With a “little” delay, I’ll have to finish the story about Greece because there is much more to tell about this country. As I was writing, I thought that I would like a device that can capture emotions when we discover new places, because neither pictures nor words can render the image to its true value. Surely, if I could put into words the state of euphoria I sometimes feel, the text would be a corny one. Totally not my style ????
However, I will try to describe all the wonderful places I’ve discovered, starting with Athens, where I would go back anytime to eat the best truffle pasta on the terrace of Grande Bretagne Hotel. The view with the Acropolis in the background is astonishing. In fact, the hotel is in itself a piece of art with a lot of history and also a place of reference for the city.
And since after a meal, sleep is always welcome, I invite you to the fanciest bedroom, outdoors, on the top floor of New Hotel. As the name implies, it is a new, modern, minimalist, yet spectacular hotel with many contrasting decor elements.
As I was telling you in the previous post, the next mandatory destination is Lake Vouliagmeni, a lake powered by underground springs, with temperatures between 22 and 24 degrees Celsius all year round. It is also a Fish Spa with the fish doctor. It is a protected area and swimming is forbidden after using sunscreen. The warm water sensation in October and the peeling done by fish was brilliant.
Athens remains after all a city with many unique places. I would like to discover more while coming back to the places I already fell in love with.
The next destination in our semi-marathon was a short stop at the Corinth Canal, a channel that separates the Peloponnese region from the rest of Greece. The channel doesn’t have the necessary size for modern cruise ships, therefore it doesn’t really have an economic importance.
I was, however, excited to arrive in Loutraki, where we stayed at Club Hotel Casino Loutraki, which shelters, as the name implies, one of the largest casinos. Tourism in the area is flourishing because of this casino (where the city hall holds 16%), but also thanks to the thermal waters and spas developed around them.
I know we’ve upset a lot of people with our pictures in swimsuits, but we couldn’t miss the infinity pool in our hotel and the few hours of sunshine. All the hotels I’ve seen are immense and I would need a separate post for each of them, but if you like the idea and want to explore the area, I’ll leave you a link to each of them so you can analyze them. Or I can answer questions in private ????
Because I didn’t want to lose my training in packing and unpacking, ???? on the 4th day I went to the Tripoli region, more precisely to the town of Nafplio, the former capital of Greece. But before taking up accommodations in this fairytale town, we made two spectacular stops. First in the old theater Epidavros, a small town of ancient Greece, an absolutely superb place, well preserved, with brilliant acoustics. It’s perfect for a few hours to hear your thoughts.
The other stop was absolutely breathtaking. The most modern and luxurious hotel that I’ve seen so far, Amanzoe. It is an ultra-exclusive concept, detached from Ancient Greece, with prices to match, but services at the highest standard and the view is worth every penny. It’s worth going, at least for a lunch in their beach restaurant where we’ve been and it was excellent. Or rent one of the 1000 volumes available in the hotel’s library. I would like to come back and spend at least a couple of hours here. I’m putting a complete stay on my wishlist. For more detailed images, you have a short vlog of this trip here.
Not as luxurious, but interesting and picturesque, the city of Nafplio is one of the places where I want to come back again and again for every building and street. Here I felt that I don’t have enough outfits or time to make a real shooting. I know that most of the people don’t think this way, but when you combine two passions, you imagine all sorts of outfits that blend perfectly with the scenery.
In the last two days, we left the Tripoli region, but not before we saluted Mrs. Prefect. Then we headed to Kalamata city, where we quickly visited the hotel.
And as we saved the best for last, we spent the final two nights at Costa Navarino Hotel, a huge domain with everything you could imagine. Here I’ve learned to taste olive oils and also how to graft an olive tree, which was super exciting and fun.
From the pool in front of the room to the huge golf course, or the variety of restaurants, this place is a very well organized little town.
While I’m telling you all about this, I’m packing for a new adventure, but much more wild. For me, Greece remains a luxurious destination, with the most spectacular hotels, delicious food, and impressive places.
Therefore, if you really want to spoil yourselves relatively close to home, this is the perfect place.
You can find in the description of each hotel, a link to their websites in case you want to plan your vacation and here is a short vlog with our adventure.
Enjoy and travel the world with me.
