TAORMINA & MOUNT ETNA (second part)

As opposed to the adventure on Mt Etna, Taormina is the most beautiful and relaxing city/resort I visited on this occasion. Archeological sites and ancient ruins are scattered all over the city, but the main attraction is definitely the Greek Theatre. It offers the most beautiful view of Etna and the coast. An hour later we said good bye to that wonderful view and we were on our way to Corso Umberto, the main pedestrian zone situated in the city center. If you want to do some shopping, to go for a walk, have a romantic dinner or simply to taste the best ice cream, this is the place to go to. I highly recommend the Sisili shop ( Corso Umberto 174), where you can find necklaces, earrings, hats and many other things produced manually in Sicily. For the most exclusive fragrances go to Narcisse ( Corso Umberto 33) and for some really tasty pasta go to Le Quattro Fontane ( in Piazza Duomo) – which you shouldn’t miss. The largest department store is Parisi- situated right at the beginning of the pedestrian zone. If your budget allows you, I recommend San Domenico Palace Hotel Taormina – where I’ve only been for a garden tour. Built into an old church, offering a stunning view of Mt Etna and Taormina bay, high-end luxury and a beautiful garden, this hotel is most definitely part of the Sicilian history and culture.
Other significant tourist attractions:
Church of San Giuseppe
Piazza IX Aprile
Torre dell’Orologio
Piazza Fountain ( Piazza Duomo)
Cathedral of San Nicolo

If you want to go to the beach, you can take the funicular for a 10 min journey to Lido di Mazzaro, a resort which developed from a fishermen’s town to a top destination.

Aurora
